Nikon SB-800 AF Speedlight Flash for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras

Well built and works seamlessly with the D300.

This flash has worked great with my Nikon D70, but is slightly large for casual use. Very powerful and exposes pictures extremly well. Great for bouncing flash from ceilings. I would rate higher, but when this flash is mounted on the camera, it's really top heavy and difficult to carry around with a strap so I use it far less than I would like to. Would prefer something lighter and maybe more innovative in being able to get the same effect with something smaller/expandable when needed maybe.

I have an SB-400 which works fine as well. But the SB-600's ability to operate stand alone off camera and use the Nikon creative lighting system just makes it phenomenal!

I have been amazed at the intelligence built into this flash. I have a Nikon D80, so everything programatically synchronizes. The lens knows when I am zooming in on a subject and adjust the focus of the light. I have only played a bit with the bounce feature, but have been very pleased with it for the limited time I have had it.

I have used the SB-800 along with two SB-600, initially just the two SB-600 with my Nikon D80. SB-600s left shortcomings light "fill" on many of my shots. Purchased additional SB-800 (being much more powerful with a quicker cycle). Much better product and worth every cent!. The pop-out white card on the bounce flash produced some excellent results even if used as a single flash light source. I am an old analog SLR guy but the speedlight technology and its accuracy is totally amazing especially when all three are used in concert!
