Description/Reviews

Good lamp for the price.
You can't beat the price here. Though the quality of materials & workmanship is not top shelf, you definately get your money's worth with this lamp. It works well & looks good enough for what it is. Great for anyone on a budget. 2008-02-23

Looks okay but could not screw on the shade
Just opened the box and assembled the lamp, which went pretty well. There's a gap in the gold trim on the shade which I turned toward the wall.
Step No. 5 in the instructions says: "Unscrew the plastic locker from the socket and place the acrylic shade onto socket cup; then screw the plastic locker to secure the shade." However, when I unscrewed the plastic locker from the socket and tried to place the acrylic shade onto the socket cup, the plastic locker would not screw back on to secure the shade. I paid almost $13 plus delivery for the lamp. To ship it back would cost almost as much as the lamp and I need a lamp in my bedroom, so I put a 28-watt flourescent bulb (equal to 100 watt incandescent) into the socket and did not screw in the plastic locker. The lamp shade is whobbly, but I have it connected to the wall switch so I won't have to use the on-off switch on the lamp. It seems the space taken by the shade kept the plastic locker from connecting so that it could be screwed in. Without the shade in place, it screws in, however. Go figure!
I think the lamp looks okay, but with the loose lampshade, the lamp is not very stable.

should have been a "0" star
This lamp is complete trash- bought 1 of these & 1 of the Holmes lamps to see which one I liked better before I bought another of either as I needed 2 in one room. Unbelievable junk.
There is a plastic gold colored trim on white plastic shade that falls off, the shade is plastic so it will probably warp or melt in the heat of a 25 watt bulb because it didn't fit onto the top correctly or sit straight. Basically a fire hazard. I'm afraid my son might leave it on accidentally.
The only brass plated anything I see is the switch knob which was in the bottom of the box I had to stand on a couch & look down into the lamp with the light of the Holmes lamp to guide me to spend 10 minutes contorting my fingers to put the switch in the "hole" to screw it in on the "pin". It was slightly stripped which means it will probably break with normal use.
The actual poles are cheap & don't fit together very well, you can see where each metal piece meets as they are different sizes so one can fit inside the other. As others have stated, grab it from the base to move it or the whole thing falls apart.
In all, I'll be ordering another Holmes lamp & will let my Hubby have the electrical guts of this to make into another bowling pin lamp or more temp lighting for the garage. It's not worth what I paid to ship this back or the gas to drive it to the post office or UPS store.
Save your money... Burn a candle.

Awesome Deal
I bought these lamps thinking they would be pretty cheap looking. When I got them they were actually really nice lamps for what we paid. I would buy more if I needed them. 2007-06-11

Inexpensive Lighting
Pros:
inexpensive at $9
Look like they cost more
Lights the room well
Cons:
cheaply made , but only apparent if physically handled
------
For $9 they're a bargain but I wouldn't pay much more
